2016 Charity Report
2016 SPORTSLINK CHARITY REPORT
SportsLink is proud to be a part of the community in Charlotte. We try to be active in improving the community and helping many local charities in fundraising as well as supporting several of our own initiatives.
This is possible because of YOU!
By playing in our leagues and the PLUS 10 program; by participating in the various charity tournaments and events we host every year; and by personally contributing time and donations to various drives, you make it possible. THANK YOU!
In 2016, we DONATED $15,000 directly to various charities and drives.
We donated a van full of SCHOOL SUPPLIES to disadvantaged youth at the start of school. About half the supplies were donated by players participating in charity tournaments and SportsLink spent approximately $1,200 purchasing additional supplies.
Through toy drives at one of our volleyball tournaments, our annual holiday party and through direct donations from players and SportsLink staff we were able to provide CHRISTMAS GIFTSfor over a hundred disadvantaged kids at one of the local rec centers we play sports at AND provide a foster family of fourteen with over 80 gifts and needed household supplies.
In conjunction with Parks and Recreation and with contributions from many of our movie watchers at our REEL DEAL events, we took 30 plus local disadvantaged kids to see the movies to see STAR WARS. We know it’s nerdy, but they had a blast!
This Summer, we worked with another local charitable organization focused on refugees and organized three FREE DAY SPORTS CAMPS for over 60 kids from different countries.
During the Winter we hosted a coat drive at all the leagues and DONATED COATS, along with over 10 cases of gently used sports equipment that we couldn’t use or that were left unclaimed via lost and found.
We also worked with several groups to host CHARITABLE TOURNAMENTS. The tournaments themselves raised over $30,000. We donated $8,500 directly the causes. A few of the supported causes:
Habitat for Humanity (house building), Give Hope Globally (Haiti orphanage), Safe Alliance & Community Support Services (victims of domestic & sexual violence), Camp Thunderbird (youth camp scholarships), etc…
